you can make them into tree ornaments.

doesn’t look like winter at all…
August 10, 2010 - 6:06 pm - brilliant!! hmmm..
August 11, 2010 - 12:14 am - They are really really cute, but there is no way anyone in Utah would pay $3-$6 each for them.
August 16, 2010 - 3:30 pm - Oh man, I love my genius sister
i remember last spring a dear friend of mine, who isn’t a professional but one who loves photography, was talking to me about the irony that she–as a hobbyist who takes pictures everyday–has yet to update her several years-old family photo. our conversation led to finding good photographers, photo shoots, pricing and why “professionals” charge, what seemed to her to be, an insane amount of money for pictures that most people can take themselves as long as they were using a descent camera and photoshop. i mean, in the digital era, nowadays, anyone can be a good photographer…right? add a in a little miracle called PHOTOSHOP and WA-LA!–you have a nice picture that ANYONE can take…right? and what’s up with charging $$$$ for the copyright releases? and what about those $50 8×10 prints that i can turn around and get printed at wal-mart for $2???
after i calmly took a really deep breath, i explained why this is so–and why most PROFESSIONAL photographer’s pricing structure really are quite reasonable.
[...and i then i chewed her up and spit her out on the sidewalk.]
ha! just kidding!!
my answers did satisfy her questions (for the moment) but my mind frequently returns to that conversation last april because i don’t feel like i really showed her the light.
and that bugs.
and she isn’t the only one who has queried. since i’ve started charging for my work several years ago, i run into this subject ALL.THE.TIME.
and so to those people who have always wondered why REAL photographers charge what they do, i give you the following articles written by some fantastic photographers:
by marianne drenthe of marmalade photography
and
by erin farrell of erin farrell photography
your homework assignment is to READ THESE ARTICLES!! you will learn something new, i promise! and you will gain helpful and insightful information.
then go buy yourself an ice cream cone and dance in the sunset. or just feel better about the money you just invested in pictures–whichever one you prefer
August 6, 2010 - 11:12 am - Have I ever told you that your camera takes really great pictures? ;) He he. Actually, I know you are a genius.
September 17, 2010 - 9:41 pm - loved the second article. what a perfect analogy with the ole oven!! it totally bugs when people praise your camera. love your work. keep it up!
last may, becky higgins set out to give a ginormous giveaway for the entire month of may. each day in may, a person was gifted a photo shoot by a particular photographer. i was featured on may 7th to represent salt lake county. it was my responsibility to pick a winner out of those who left a comment on becky’s blog.
boy was i in for it!
i had no idea how difficult it would be to choose a winner amongst the many who submitted a comment. i went into this knowing that i wanted to gift it to someone who stood out and who was in need. this family had me at “hello”. this wonderful young couple has 5 kids including 2 sets of twins. YES!! i said TWO sets of twins!
check these cuties out! first, there is beautiful big sis…
then set number one…

aaand, set number 2…
2 girls…
thanks to the jones family for a very fun session!!
i love my work…if you could even call it that. i have come across wonderful people and i am so lucky to get to know all of them. it’s fun to find things in common with those in front of my lens. this family won the big photography giveaway on becky higgin’s blog way back in may. i have so much respect for this young mommy. i have 4 words: TWO SETS OF TWINS!!!
i know, huh?!!
anyway, i bonded with them instantly because of the stage of life they are in right now. young kids, 8, 6, 2, diapers, school, projects, potty training around the corner times two, etc. i’m putting the finishing touches on them and they should be ready to go pretty soon. for now, enjoy!
August 6, 2010 - 8:41 am - These are adorable! Great job with the two sets of twins.
yah–i know it’s summer but he was the last real “spring baby” from my newborn sessions. and yes, i am behind on blogging!
it’s fun to watch bellies become babies–especially when it’s your sister’s…
i have so many favorites from this shoot! i’m sure i will post more as i go through them…
i could take pictures of newborns all day long.
