It’s like Christmas again! I have to TWO expecting sister-in-laws who will be having babies in the next 3 months! Here is Lizette being gorgeous and showing her cuteness:

So fun to wait for another niece from Lizette & Kendall and a nephew from Kristen & Shayn
Now that I have a little time for creativity, I have been playing. I haven’t done that in a LONG time. And it feels good.
I don’t claim to have mastered the realm of indoor/action photography but it has been really fun to figure it out. Have you challenged yourself lately and changed your creative paradigm? I’d love to hear about it!

Unfortunately, it looks like this year is not going to work out for me to do mini sessions for Holiday photos as I had hoped. Because of the nature of my husband’s work and other family commitments, I don’t see how I can offer photo sessions through the Fall and still be a good mom
This isn’t a permanent goodbye! I will definitely continue to offer photography services in the future so just consider this a Fall/Winter Vacation

Be sure and check back here and
the Hazel Bee Photography Facebook page periodically; I will continue to post images of projects that are always a work in progress through the holiday season (i.e. my family and life in general) As always, I will let you know here on my Facebook page as well as on my blog when I’m “back in commission”.
Thanks so much for all your support! My clients are the best! As always, drop me a line and let me know how you and your families are spending your Holiday Season!

this blogging every couple weeks is really lame-o isn’t it? i really should be making it a daily practice but i’m afraid distractions are winning.
baby distractions are totally justified though. did you know i have a new nephew? here, let me introduce you:

i know! he’s so handsome, huh? he’s actually one month old in that picture. i normally take pictures of newborns when they are DAYS old but he had to travel a long way to get here. and i am SO very glad he did!

sometimes i marvel at how my husband’s side of the family has exploded with boys when in the beginning there were just my 2 daughters ruling the roost: pink, ruffles, princesses, barbies & dancing were center stage. now we have cars, rodeos, trucks, tractors, mud & dirt directing our attention.

i’m not complaining though
especially when they come like this:

congratulations cody & judy–he’s going to fit right in

excited about holiday greeting cards?
BEHOLD!

HAVE A HAPPY MONDY!!
i get letters–lots and lots of letters …
just kidding.
i actually really do get a lot of emails about all sorts of photography related questions. i feel quite flattered when i receive them and sometimes i chuckle because i think–ha! i’m really fooling everyone into thinking i know a little about photography–double haaaaaa! because really, people, i’m still learning! aren’t we all?
here is one i received just the other day:
I was wondering, did you go to school to learn photography? Or did you teach yourself?
I’m really interested in photography and doing what you do and I was wondering if you can tell me how you got to where you are.
i shall post my answer in hopes to help anyone else out there considering the jump into photography.
i took one course of black & white photography back in 2002. besides that, i am totally self-taught. having a career in photography is very fulfilling and enjoyable but takes lots of hard work. i am just barely getting used to the fact that running a photography business isn’t just knowing how to take really good pictures, it also entails being a good business person. here is my advice for you:
1) keep family first. i can’t stress this enough. i believe keeping my children & spouse #1 is the only way to be successful. i have a personal rule that my kids don’t get babysat for more than a few hours per week when it comes to running the business. i don’t want somebody else raising my kids. being a mom is my #1 job. although i am proud to say i’m a photographer, it is SECOND in line for me. once i lose that perspective, everything else falls apart and photography isn’t very fun anymore.
2) learn inside and out how to operate your camera and how to make perfect exposures. how? read on…
3) read. read. read. read. read. read. read EVERYTHING you can about photography and then a little on photoshop and then practice. practice. practice. practice. PRACTICE everything you read. i often say that operating a camera is just like learning to play a musical instrument. you have to play with your camera EVERY DAY to be good. some excellent resources are books by bryan peterson such as “understanding exposure” and also blogs on the internet by other photographers for inspiration and learning challenges. there are also great photography forums online that are excellent communities of people such as yourself and myself. it helps to come together in one place and learn from each other. i like clickinmoms.com, ilovephotography.com and twopeasinabucket.com. workshops are another great way to learn. there are several workshops out there–some really excellent–some not so good. be sure and do your homework when deciding on a workshop. many people have been ripped off sending away thousands of dollars to a “photographer” thinking they will be getting professional instruction and then come away empty-handed.
3) be patient.
4) have fun!
i almost forgot
5) have really cute kids so you can take pictures of them all the time
i hope this helps someone else out there!
i would love to hear your comments and i’m happy to answer any questions you have about the wonderful world of photography! have a lovely rest of the weekend!
